“The Art of a Play” was conceived to capture the unscripted dramatic moments of the Florian Zeller play, “The Father” written from the point of view of an Alzheimer patient’s decline into dementia. The art was exhibited at the North Fork Theater in Mattituck during the production’s run. Social media postings were used to enhance the connection between the art, the actors, director, and the audience.

I wanted the drawings to capture the interactions between the director and actors while rehearsing the play. Depicting this series of moments – the actors developing the characters, the staging and lighting nudged to better illustrate the plays’ emotional points, expressed so much about being human, while the main character’s plight is dealing with the loss of his humanity. I found that rendering the drawings in stark black and white lent poignancy to the subject matter. See the full set of drawings here.
