SANTA MONICA CANYON, CA STUDIO

The 1-bedroom apartment I used as a studio across from Will Rogers beach in Santa Monica was ideal for a time. The building was used as a bath house in what was known as "The city by the sea". Now the mortar was crumbling. When the wind blew sand and dust colored black from the endless traffic below would coat the windowsills. When not being worked on the large paintings were hung from the high ceilings accessible by a pulley system created by Geoff. It started in one corner of the living room. In no time at all I had taken over the entire area.

VENICE, CALIFORNIA

Venice was a developing art hub and a great place to have a studio. The area was still plagued with gang violence so a bit dicey. The Venice boardwalk was a daily circus and a great place for inspiration.

SILVER LAKE

SILVER LAKE house and studio allowed me an indoor and outdoor space to work. Large events like the Los Angeles Festival – a city wide arts vestival the included different types of venues to become art galleries and crazy locations like freeways to bring artists to the attention of the public. The giant masks were created for the Los Angeles Art Festival and were also asked to be a part of the Festival of Masks Parade. My painting took a more realistic turn while my sculptures and 3-D pieces became wilder.
